Hey there! I'm Janelle, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing telehealth therapy throughout California. I have over six years of experience providing therapy to children, adolescents, teens and young adults in school-based and community mental health settings through individual, group, and family therapy, and collaboration with parents/caregivers, family members, and other service providers. I have treated a wide range of issues, including, but not limited to: anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse, anger management, behavioral issues and defiance. I have also had the incredible privilege to work with individuals that are part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and individuals affected by grief and loss. I try to “practice what I preach” by attempting to bring mindfulness and gratitude into my personal life. I strive to always be empathetic, validating, and an active listener so that people feel heard and understood. I love to both get outdoors in nature and stay cozy inside with a scary movie or book. I am also a huge animal lover and have 3 wild pets at home, including a dog and two cats. I know what it’s like to be in a dark space and how helpless it can feel. Although we cannot change the ups and downs that are part of life, we can work proactively on learning the tools to weather life's most challenging storms. Therapy is not a magic cure, but together we can take small steps to improve the happiness in and quality of your life. I am excited and honored to be a part of your journey! My passion is to help adolescents, teens and young adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and adjustment to life events. I support my clients in developing tools and skills to better manage the stressors they are facing and in building their self-confidence in handling future stressors life will inevitably bring. Some people like to talk in therapy; others, not so much. We can use a variety of methods in therapy, such as talking, moving our bodies, using play and games, creating art, journaling, and even discussing themes and patterns in your favorite music, shows and movies. We can work together to find the best and most comfortable ways to meet your goals. However, I will always do my best to actively listen and to treat my clients with acceptance, warmth, and compassion so that they feel supported and comfortable in therapy. My primary approach is to consistently remain strengths-based and client-centered by always reminding you of your progress, growth, skills, and strengths and by treating you with unconditional respect and kindness. I include a variety of approaches in my therapy, including: mindfulness-based therapy, somatic therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Person-Centered (Rogerian) Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), psychoanalytic theory, trauma-focused therapy, art therapy and play therapy.
